Only this week I realised I had not seen "Wall" butterfly for many years. I assumed it was because I moved from Surrey to Birmingham, Scotland and finally Hereford. A great pity, but why? I recall it was widespread and its host plants were grasses. In W.Sussex in my teens the verges were cut with mechanical scythe. Every 10m or so there was a pile of dead grass. When this turned brown almost always a lizard or slow-worm would be sun-bathing on these heaps. Now verges are either not cut or "cut" with chain flail, everything gets killed.

Кстати, я некоторое время назад обратился к тебе с обременительной просьбой. Вопрос частично решен - я достал копии нужных страниц флор Ирана и Турции. Но вот вопрос с Аравией и Магрибом остается животрепещущим. К сожалению, это именно те случаи, где мне не удалось найти точных ссылок.
Вот без точных ссылок я в ступоре: там надо запрос делать на конкретные работы, приезжаешь и они тебя ждут. Поспрашивай -- может кто знает, какие там работы есть? У меня ботаников нет знакомых. Были б точные ссылки -- поехал бы и переснял что надо.
The Wall Brown got widely extinct in Southern England apparently due to warming of climate: too many butterflies started to emerge in October as third brood, and their offspring couldn't grow big enough to survive the winter!
On the other hand, it exhibits a certain expansion in more northerly counties.
